Meridian, MS - The Mississippi Tourism Association is in Meridian this week for its largest conference of the year.
Executive Director of MTA, Danielle Morgan, explains why the association is in town.
“Tourism is the fourth largest industry in Mississippi, and last year it brought $7.1 billion dollars to the state's economy. So, it’s a tremendous multi-billion-dollar producer, and it is what’s making Mississippi communities thrive. We have a couple of educational events throughout the year, but this is our biggest one. We have over 200 tourism professionals from all over the state.”
Mrs. Morgan told Twin States News why Meridian was the perfect location for its biggest conference.
“It’s been a long time since we had this event here, but now with the Threefoot Hotel and all of the wonderful new things happening downtown, it was just a great place for us to host this conference.”
First-time visitor of Meridian, Shawna Suckow, also expressed her admiration for the city.
“I had never heard of Meridian, nor had I ever been here. I’m so grateful that I got the chance because it is just the most charming town. I looked at the gazebo and the clock across the street and the carousel horse, and it's just so picturesque. It’s like out of a painting. The downtown has just been fantastic and the people have been welcoming. I love it here.”
The 2023 MTA Governor’s Conference on Tourism will continue tomorrow at the Riley Center when Governor Tate Reeves is set to be the guest speaker.
