Meridian, MS - The extreme rise temperatures outside have also caused a rise in electricity, and in a statement released by Central district public service commissioner Brent Bailey, he urges Mississippians to help conserve electricity.

The Statement reads: “The Mississippi Public Service Commission continues to monitor the effects of these extreme temperatures on our state and regional energy grid and appreciates the consuming public’s assistance in the wise consumption of energy during this time.”
Speaking of conserving the City of Newton, is asking residents for help conserving water in this time of heat.
“One of our wells is down here in the city, and while its being repaired, all this heat and no rain we’ve had for quite some time is taxing the system, so for that reason we’ve asked our water customers to limit their usage best as they can and not water their yards, sports fields, and fill their swimming pools at this time.” says Brian Mayo.
Brian Mayo is with the City of Newton and emphasizes what to watch out for when conserving water. “Double check taps to make sure there’s no running water around the house and everything, sometimes you may think you got something closed off and it’s still running, and maybe every little bit you know, you let something run for just a few minutes you’re using a lot of water.”
Residents are being encouraged in this time of extreme heat to conserve energy and water as much as they can.
