As the school year progresses, Principal Anita Wansley at Northeast Elementary School says it’s beginning to be overwhelming for parents with distance learning students. Students are gradually transitioning back to on-campus learning for a better understanding in the classroom.
“At-home learning is difficult and parents have a lot on their plate. I talk with parents often about the difficulty it is to be able to do that virtual learning or packet learning at home. It’s a lot.”
Wansley believes schedules are becoming a bit tight during the pandemic for parents and they just need help during the process.
“Due to work schedules, due to realizing their children learn better on-campus and they wanted their children to rejoin our learning community, that they chose to have their students return.”
To get students back on track, the school district is making sure all students are catching up on their skills after being at home for that length of time.
“We are trying to partner with them to take them wherever they come, whatever skill level they come with--if they were able to continue learning or if that was a struggle for them, we are able to try to close those gaps and get them caught up so they’re learning with the rest of their class.”
Due to the consistent return of students, the district has become more strict when it comes to following all safety guidelines.
