Meridian police are investigating a shooting that happened earlier today that left one person shot and laying in the middle of 24th Avenue. Twin States News was nearby and heard the shots.

Around 2:40 P.M. 24th avenue was filled with police cars after several shots were fired. I was at Meridian Highschool covering another story when I heard the gunshots. Since then, the school has gone on lockdown.
I spoke with a neighbor who said he and his wife also heard the gunfire. When they went outside, they saw a young man lying on the road.
“She heard something and said what was that noise. I don’t hear really good, I said I didn’t hear it.” About 10-15 seconds later I heard about eight loud gunshots. I came rushing up to the door to see what it was, and it was a young boy laying out into the streets”, stated Calvin Lott.

Neighbors told me the person who was shot was badly injured and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
“We dialed 911 and when we got through to them, they told us that it had already been reported. I came out and as I said he was laying in the street bleeding, and he was hurt pretty bad”, explained the neighbor.

The incident happened near the intersection of 24th street and 24th avenue. If you go down the hill and go through only two stop signs, you will be at Meridian High School.
Neighbors say they believe they saw blue clothing on the victim, Meridians High’s school color.
“It’s hard for me to tell, he looked like a high school student. He may have had some blue. He didn’t have it on but there were some clothes or something he had in his hand or under him”, stated Lott.
Police are still investigating the shooting. We will keep you updated as more information on exactly what happened here becomes available.
