MERIDIAN, Miss. - The Meridian Public School District recently launched a Meridian LEADS initiative. Administrators of each campus have met twice a month since February to key on topics that will make them better leaders for their school.
“We’re talking about how do you set a vision for your building. How do you use documents such as the MED scaffolding documents which is what helps teachers to know what they are teaching and the expectations," said Elementary Curriculum Director LaVonda Germany.
With those expectations comes a total of ten sessions leaders must go through. Assistant Principal Kevin Conley explains he’s able to take those tools to use in the upcoming school year.
“...now with having these strategies provided to us and kind of explained to us. I can take it back and see how it transfers over into my day to day routine," said Conley.
Dr. Kim Benton is a former principal for the district and is able to share her expertise during professional development sessions. She says stronger leaders make stronger students.
“Our principals are tasked with supporting the teachers day in and day out to make sure they have the support necessary to lead to a positive outcome for children," said Benton.
The Meridian Public School District will complete all administrative sessions in June.
