MERIDIAN, Miss. - A partnership between Mississippi State University-Meridian and Meridian Community College allows students further opportunities in applied sciences. Beginning in the fall, MSU-Meridian will offer a new Bachelor of Applied Sciences emphasis in trade supervisions.
Associate Vice President Dr. Terry Dale Cruise says this emphasis is different from the applied sciences degree from two years ago.
“The trade supervision program is the latest program that we’re adding and we’re pleased to do that with Meridian Community College because it means such a niche need that they’re excelling in already in the community," said Dr. Cruise.
The program will be held at the Meridian Community College Workforce Training Center. President Dr. Thomas Huebner says MCC is the only community college in the state that has the emphasis in applied sciences.
“This four year degree is going to allow our students who have had backgrounds in electrical technology or CAD 3D engineering tech or programs of that nature to be able to move into a four year degree program that allows them supervision," said Dr. Huebner.
Cruise says the degree is 120 hours. He says 60 hours and 45 hours of technical credit will come from MCC and the rest from MSU-Meridian.
“We’re providing an opportunity for students to bring all of those technical credits into a bachelor's completion program without losing any of that valuable work they’ve done before," explained Dr. Cruise.
Students May choose up to three specific emphasis areas to complete the degree requirements.
“They’re able to have those leadership skills, communication skills and kind of a knowledge base that will prepare them to be successful in any career they choose," said Dr. Huebner.
