AN ORGANIZATION THAT HELPS THE HOMELESS, VETERANS, AND OTHER GROUPS YEAR-ROUND IN MERIDIAN, IS LOOKING FOR SOME HELP FROM THE COMMUNITY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, TWIN STATES NEWS TELLS US ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION CALLED MUTEH AND EXPLAINS EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO.

During the holidays, more people are inclined to be mission-minded or help others in need. But today, Twin States News speaks with an organization that says they've made it their mission to put others first all year round.

ALLEN TISDALE- TEAM LEAD FOR THE EAST CENTRAL OFFICE says "MUTEH is a nonprofit organization that seeks to serve the vulnerable populations across the state. We serve 71 counties in the state of Mississippi. We focus basically on individuals who are in places not meant for human habitation."

Allen Tisdale tells Twin States News that MUTEH is always looking for donations not only money but also items needed for homes where people are placed. Things like TVs, couches, microwaves, and anything that will make a house a home.

Allen Tisdale says "Our primary focus is individuals who have been chronically homeless. And then also we work with a lot of veterans trying to assist our military individuals who have walked into homelessness, back into housing and connect them to the appropriate services that they need."

JOWANDA McCOY- HOUSING CASE MANAGER says "We are an organization that loves helping others. We reach out to help people. Our goal is to help everybody maintain and be happy."

MUTEH’s housing manager Jowanda McCoy says they look forward to gaining new partnerships in the community. That way everyone can unite for the purpose of housing those in need. She encourages everyone to get involved and even introduced us to one of the recipients of MUTEH’s Outreach Program.

JANICE SMITH: RECIPIENT OF HOUSING THROUGH MUTEH says " They're a wonderful organization that I didn't even know existed. I at one time was like other people. I had everything. I lost everything after an assault. Been living in my car for about a year and a half, even though I work. I couldn't afford the deposits."

Janice Smith was emotional when she told Twin State News that without MUTEH she would still be sleeping in her car or possibly even worse. She calls it an amazing experience. And everyone associated with MUTEH are God-sent people who have forever changed hers and others' lives for the better.

ALLEN TISDALE added "One of the big factors of what we do is outreach. So, we find people who are literally in situations that are not meant for human habitation, sleeping in places they should never be sleeping in. And we try to connect those individuals to services to get them off the streets and into finding stability."

If you would like to learn more about how you can get involved with the MUTEH organization, you can go to their Facebook page for more information, or visit their website at MUTEH.org .
