Couple, Curtis and Christy Kelly are the founders of the new organization Humanity Assemble. This organization allows youth a second chance after run-ins with the law.
“We really want to be an umbrella organization for the city itself," says Curtis. "We’re going to introduce a bunch of programs that will ultimately reinvent and reimagine what it means to be a community.”
Within those programs, the organization will help youth excel in areas they may lack.
The Juvenile Victim-Offender Mediation program, allows the organization to mediate cases between juveniles and the law through partnerships.
“Through the course of everything I’ve done throughout my career, I’ve really had an outlook towards the youth and wanting to help the youth," says Christy. "I really feel like the focus needs to be on the youth and the next generation.”
“When we see us-which is our mentorship program is going to help assist youth by helping them to see imagery of people that look like them. We really want to facilitate the connection between the youth of the community and the professionals of the community.”
During the course of the program, the youth have the opportunity to receive tips and useful advice from their mentors.
“We want to create sort of a pen pal relationship from mentor to mentee via email or even written letters.”
The organization plans to grow toward other areas outside of Meridian and asks for help from the community to make a huge jumpstart. To learn more, visit their website at www.humanityassemble.com.
