Meridian, MS - At a press conference today the Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency announced big upgrades are coming to the weather systems used in Lauderdale County.
It's been a long-needed update, as county officials have dealt with a gap in the weather radar coverage for the Lauderdale area, for years.
"We don't have any radar coverage. The closest radar we cover is eight thousand feet above our head, and that doesn't give us any kind of indication of what storms are doing at ground level or even at one thousand feet."
The new radar system should give the county clear and accurate data from ground level to fifty thousand feet.
This will give the county more time to warn the residents of any oncoming weather.
It should be up and running around the new year.
