The Newton County School District started their first day back to school today with students, faculty and staff following the new COVID-19 guidelines set for the district. Students are excited about learning even if it is slightly different than usual.
“I got in the bed at 8pm ready to come to school to see all my friends, teachers and everybody I miss and get to work,” says senior Carlois Walker. “Right now it’s going pretty good- Newton County is the greatest school in the country and we’re making the best of it.”
The even grades attended school today with tomorrow leading into the odd grades, giving the campuses 50% of students each day.
“I was really excited to come here because my brother comes here and I’ve always wanted to be here because it’s bigger and there’s more classes and I want to learn more,” says 6th grader Madilynn McDaniel.
The district is requiring social distancing in the classrooms, cafeterias, lines and hallways.
“It was definitely different coming into school today,” says sophomore Tate Baucum. “We’re all wearing masks and teachers are sensitive about making sure we’re all spread apart, but I’m really excited to be back.”
The Newton County School District expressed the safety of their students and staff are their number one priority.
