In Meridian, the citywide mask mandate has officially been in effect since Saturday, July 25, city officials say that no police presence has been requested to enforce the mandate since it began.
The mandate requires anyone over the age of 2 to wear a facial covering that covers the mouth and nose in public spaces, and when entering businesses. Those found in violation will first be issued a warning citation, but once found in violation a second time an individual will receive a fine of $100, and a business will receive a fine of $250.
“We’ve received some questions from some businesses, where they would have a customer come in and refuse to wear a mask. So far, thankfully, we have not received any calls for assistance from the police department, because of customers being unruly, and I thank our citizens for not getting into it, but there are people who still resist wearing them,” said Eddie Kelly, Chief Administrative Officer of Meridian.

The citywide mask mandate will continue to remain in effect until further notice.
