The Teachers of Northeast Elementary have created a way for students to have a sense of togetherness with their school community.

The First-Grade Students of Northeast Elementary School are doing something special this year. The class will be burying a time capsule today. The class will be set to uncover the capsule on the date of 3/3/33 when the students are Seniors. Some students tell us what they put into the capsule.

Linda Weir the Schools Family and Community Engagement Coordinator said, “This year would they have the special date, February 22 of 22? Well, this great first-grade group here when they become seniors, they'll experience March 3 of 33. So, the teachers thought what a great way to create a time capsule that they can come back when they're seniors and uncover and find out about things that were going on when they were in first grade.”
The students created an all about me booklet and put things like their favorite foods, favorite tv shows, and things they like to do.
“That has pictures of their family. Their parents wrote a note to them. So it's just going to be a special memory that they can come back as a group to share and uncover,” stated Weir.
Some of the first-grade students tell us what they are most excited about and what they will be putting into the capsule.
Caleb Moore said, “It was really fun to make, and it was really easy.”
“I’m excited about digging up the box one day,” said Audrey Rush
Lewis Little said, “I might put a chain in there I think that might be the only thing I’m putting up in there.”
“I am going to put a trophy,” said Paris Howard.
Weir says even if students move off and away to another school the capsule is a great way for them to come back and remember the friendships that they built over the years.
“One thing that's special about northeast elementary is we call ourselves a family,” said Weir.
