Meridian, MS - The Trojan students and staff packed the gymnasium for this Veteran’s Day celebration.
They pledged to the flag, learned some history about the day, and gave thanks to the men and women in attendance who have served this country.
JROTC Executive Officer, Zachary Boyd, explains what Veteran’s Day means to him.
“Every day the men and women sacrificed their lives, for our country, and their family time. And it’s a great way for us to show off our unarmed exhibition team and color guard, just to say thank you to our veterans and all that they did for us.”
The JROTC exhibition team, who recently won a competition, put on a show during their performance.
25-year veteran of the United States Navy, and Naval Science Instructor for the JROTC, Kent Malone, explains why this is important for the students to learn about the sacrifices made.
“It lets the kids know today that freedom is not free, and when they get the opportunity to see their own peers at their own age celebrating this occasion, it makes me feel great that they get to enjoy the fun side of it.”
Mr. Malone also tells twins states news what the students should have learned.
“Understand that if uh they’re going to have to make some sacrifices in their life to maintain the lifestyle that we live. This is the greatest country on the planet, America.”
