One High School Football team is making a difference off the field in the Community.

Even in the off-season, the Football players of Northeast Lauderdale High school are busy. Every Wednesday the team volunteers at a Local School doing something different each week. This week they are here at Northeast Elementary School reading to the 3rd Graders. The Coach tells us more.
“Today we got an opportunity to bring some of our senior upcoming senior football players over to read to some of our third-grade classes at the elementary school. I talked with Ms. Wansley and Ms. Ware about just getting all these schools on the same page,” said Head Coach Dillon Mitchell.
The coach tells us what his main goal is today what he wishes to accomplish with his players reading to the 3rd graders.
“Working together, collaborating. And I think that that's the best opportunity for us all to be successful as a school district. And so, we wanted to get these kids excited about their upcoming benchmarks and their map testing that they have coming up,” said Mitchelle.
Coach Mitchelle says he wants his players to know that there is more to life than just football and have a program called trojan training that is incorporated to them doing something different each week.
“We're bringing in people from the community to come in and speak to our guys, just teaching them about life and being more about football more than just about football. And so, it's been really good. I think they've really enjoyed it and gotten a lot out of it. I think that's good,” stated Mitchelle.
We hear from one of the football players how he feels to be able to help make a difference in the community.
“It feels good to try to make a positive influence on the community as a whole. Was assigned to reading this book and to teach the kids the importance of reading and how it helps them in the world,” said Diondre Pugh.
