Meridian, MS - The Northeast Gymnasium was full of Trojan Pride this morning, as students were trying to contain their excitement for the volleyball team.
The Lady Trojans Volleyball team is facing off against the Newton County Cougars for the North State Championship.
Head coach, Debrah Everett, expresses why she thinks her team can get the win tonight.
“They’re a very close team. We spend so much time together, whether it’s through camps or working out. They’ve put in the work, they just need to play together. We’ll just have to play our game, and just stay focused, and have fun doing the thing that we love.”
Senior Volleyball player, Audrianna Green, expressed her excitement headed into the biggest game of her career.
“My team and I have come a long way. We faced a lot of adversity, and I’m really excited to get to play at home especially.”
The Lady Trojans have already beaten Newton County twice this season, but doing it a third time won’t be so easy.
“So we beat them in the regular season, both times. We swept them at their home, but we are definitely not underestimating them. They are a hard team, but we think we can outlast them, and we can work harder for the win.”
Athletic Director, Lewis Lightsey, tells Twin States News’ his thoughts ahead of tonight's game.
“It was a group that was very talented last year, and they didn’t make the playoffs, but they put it together this summer and they’ve had an outstanding season. You know, for a team to have a chance to win the North State and reach the State Championship would be awesome for our athletics this year.”
With a win tonight, the Lady Trojans will advance to the State Championship Finals, which will be held in Oxford, Mississippi this Friday night.
