Northeast Middle School celebrates Unity Day during Nation Bully Prevention Month

csims121

Meridian, MS - Northeast Middle School had a different color mixed with their normal red and white today.

Students and staff wore orange to support Unity Day during National Bullying Prevention Month.

School Principal, Shacora Moore, tells Twin States News why her school is celebrating Unity Day.

“Well, Northeast Middle School stands against bullying. We know that bullying often leads to people feeling low self-esteem about themselves. It affects their self-worth, and it even affects their outlook on their peers. So we really take a stand against bullying on our campus.”

Fifth grader, Brayleeh Coleman, tells the story of a time she got bullied.

“One time it was like I was afraid to get in front of people, and when I finally got up there it was people like laughing, and it was scary.”

Brayleeh and another fifth grader, Jonathan Cole, shared their thoughts for anyone who is a bully.

“Stop bruh, because you know, if you keep on doing it, it's going to eventually come back to you.”

“Stop bullying because you can really hurt people's feelings and some people really just go down mentally.”

A few eighth-grade students also shared their thoughts on bullying and why they decided to participate.

“Bullying is really not good to do, because like you might be in the position, and you don’t want anyone else to be in that position.”

“I just say stop that’s not cool because I mean like you're going to hurt that person’s feelings and imagine putting yourself in that person’s shoes.

Principal Moore has one last message to anyone out there who is a bully.

“Any bullies, I want to tell you that your words have power. You have the ability to heal people or hurt people. So it is very important to use your words wisely and keep in mind that once you say something, even if you’ve apologized, the damage is already done.”

All of these students wearing orange today came together to spread one giant message of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
