Meridian, MS - Marquan Johnson is the infection control nurse of Queen City Nursing Center and feels it is her duty to help all residents stay safe from covid. “Once a year since covid I’ve had where the residents get vaccinated. I have a facility here in Meridian that comes out and give vaccines to the residents and also the staff. With the new vaccine coming out this year, we’ll have a vaccine clinic next month in October, and we’ll get our staff and resident vaccinated then also.”

She also encourages the use of wearing mask or gloves as safety precautions, when assisting those elderly who may not have the vaccine. “The Majority of our residents want the vaccine; I might have probably no more than seven that refuse due to medical reasons.”

Although the vaccine is not mandatory, Johnson believes it will help not only the elderly but others as well. “We lost a lot of individuals due to covid. I don’t ever want to see it go back to that where you have loved ones on ventilators that you’re not able to go visit in the hospital.”
