Organizations donate to Care Lodge for Domestic Violence Awareness

Episcopal Church Women of Episcopal Church of the Mediator are one of Care Lodge of Domestic Violence Shelter’s biggest supporters when it comes to community service. Once a year, the church women and Care Lodge come together for their annual meeting to brainstorm new ideas for the shelter. This year, their main concern is COVID-19.

“They haven’t been able to meet much because of the pandemic, so actually we were able to go to their first meeting they had in person and socially distance, of course,” says Care Lodge Executive Director Abby Miller. “We were able to talk about different ways that they could support Care Lodge and sort of how COVID-19 has affected our efforts.”

The church women were able to donate clothing, toiletry items, cleaning supplies and more. The Care Lodge has been fortunate to receive numerous donations from different organizations.

“Part of that would be because of Domestic Violence Awareness month, but these are people who support us throughout the year. That’s Decatur Women’s Progressive Club in Decatur, the Women of Word Church, the Women on Fire at Firehouse Church donated 40 handbags yesterday and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority at the University of West Alabama also helped us out.”

Looking ahead, the Episcopal Church women are now preparing for the Christmas Tree for Care Lodge during Advent.

“They do a pajama tree and a toy tree for our victims in the shelter and so they will always collect pajamas in women sizes, as well as children and they collect toys.”
