Pastor speaks out on Church Burglary

On Wednesday, Meridian Police Department announced that Highland Baptist Church was burglarized early Friday morning.

Twin States News spoke with the pastor of the church, who says the suspects were inside for at least three hours:

"Kind of heartbreaking that somebody would come into your space to take things that didn't belong to them, but from kids. I mean, this a little unnerving, but also just heartbreaking at the same time", said Pastor David Hopkins.

The suspects broke into the church and got away with televisions, money from a vending machine, and even toddlers' backpacks.

"It's just another piece of evidence that we live in a world that is rattled with sin, and it's filled with that. People are in this kind of open rebellion, doing whatever they want to do, whenever they want to do it to whomever they want to. There are lots of churches that have been burglarized recently so, in one respect, it doesn't surprise me because we see that in our society. On the other hand, we see this openness of rebellion in that way that we haven't seen, at least since I've been here."

The pastor is hoping that the suspect turns themselves in.

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest, you are asked to call the Meridian Police Department at 601-485-1893.
