One local college made sure to take time out of their day to honor those who endured enemy capture and those who have yet to return home.

Today is National Prisoner of War and Missing In Action Observance day. It’s a day where Americans take the time to remember those who are and were prisoners of war and those that are still missing in action. Meridian Community College put aside time this morning to have an observance.

Members of the Ivy League Recruiters stand at attention.
The Director of Admissions Ashley Tanksley stated, “ MCC just took a few moments to reflect and to a member on those that have served our country that never returned. And just to take a moment to be grateful for our freedom.”
The United States’ National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed across the nation on the third Friday of September each year.
"We were able to have a welcome from Dr. Hubner, Mr. Curtis Brown, who has served in our military, recited a soldiers prayer, and we also had the catacombs plate live,” said Ashley.

The flag remains a symbol of America's commitment to honor the sacrifices of all those who serve.
"There's so many who gave so much and, you know, just to be able to take a few minutes out of our week, out of our day and reflect on those who gave all and those who are still missing," said Tom Hubner President of the College.
Although the day is recognized nationally it is not a Federal Holiday, the President of Meridian Community College tells us why he felt it was important for an Observance this morning .
"I know that there's sometimes so much dissension and division, but to be able to come together and remember very important things like the men and women who gave their lives for us is something that we have to do and need to so more often. “
