Quitman Lower Elementary students now have access to a total of 350 chromebooks given by the Creating Learning Connections nationwide grant the district recently applied for. The grant comes through first book, Intel and CDWG.
“Forty-five school districts in seventeen states received this grant so we were apart of that across the United States,” says ELA Curriculum Coordinator Shelia Radcliffe. “What they were wanting to do-it all came about during the pandemic time to give some school districts some access to some chromebooks and some connectivity money as well. So when I saw that, I decided to apply for it.”
Radcliffe says the chromebooks came just in time during the pandemic.
“It is very important for us to receive these chromebooks with the pandemic and not knowing what the future holds, we wanted to make sure all of our students had access to chromebooks.”
In addition, the district has received a stipend to help with connectivity.
“I am kind of researching some innovative ways to help our parents with connectivity so they can use chromebooks and access internet at the same time."
The chromebooks are expected for delivery in early November or December.
