Quitman Schools face nearly a month delay returning to in person learning as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the state. Originally, the school year was set to begin on August 10th, but due to COVID-19 cases rising, the district has rethought their plan.
“We had a webinar with Dr. Dobbs and he talked to us about some considerations, we’ve also been tracking the numbers and the thought of just trying to provide the safest environment for our students and teachers,” says Superintendent Toriano Holloway.
Classes are scheduled to begin September 8th and PPE will be required.
“We’re buying two washable masks for each student, we’ll have hand sanitizer at every entry and every exit. We will have an extra custodian staff. They will walk around all day and disinfect highly touched areas and surfaces. Our classrooms will be fogged three times a week and teachers will be provided with disinfectant.”
As students wait to return to the classroom, virtual learning will be in place.
“We’ll begin our online learning on August 10th, within the next week we will make chromebooks available for students to check out. We will open up the internet so if they use one of our devices, they can pull up next to the school.”
The district encourages parents to stay on the lookout for updates and changes either on its website or by contacting your school.
