This year marks the 13 year anniversary of the Lockheed tragedy that happened on July 8, 2003 where six lives were taken and others wounded.
To honor the lives lost in the Lockheed tragedy, Reconciliation Week was formed to create positive change by bringing together diverse people.
“My father, Rev. Miller was one of them and we as a family and a committee looked at that incident that was so divisive along the racial lines and we wanted to do something to bring the community together.”
Each year the committee utilizes different ways to give back to the community. This year they are honoring two high school seniors with the Rev. Charlie J. Miller Memorial Scholarship of $300, donating to the Meridian Freedom Project and delivering lunches to first responders.
“Reaching our youth-we know that they’re our future, so that’s apart of bringing a positive change and also finding ways to bring people who are different together.”
Miller expresses with the inhuman treatments that are going on today, the message of reconciliation is most important now. The committee welcomes everyone to come and join this week’s events.
