Meridian, MS - The National Weather Service expects high temperatures to approach or exceed record highs over portions of central and south Mississippi, and frequent cooling and hydration breaks are recommended when working outdoors.

Lieutenant Roy Fisher and The Salvation Army in Meridian are offering a cooling station for those in need during this dangerous heat. “We’re going to be open, we’re going to stay open through the heat, and we’ll make revisions from there, so the availability is still there. You never know, we’re going to be prepared for it, and if we need to make revisions this week because of the heat and we start seeing people come in, then we will make sure that even on Friday we’re open to take care of people and get them out of this heat."

EC HealthNet Medical Doctor Michael Beard encourages the community on what to do during this time. “We need to stay hydrated, stay indoors as much as we can, or if we need to go outside, we need to go out during the cooler times of the day; early in the morning or late in the evening, we need to watch out for our kids.”

Health officials say during this time of Dangerous heat, not only should we look out for ourselves, but we should also work together to look out for one another.
