Barbara Henson died on Friday at the age of 87 years old.
Barbara Henson served the community of Meridian for more than 60 years through her love for children and as a leader on the city council.
Her daughter, Beverly Henson shared just how much her mother loved the city:
“She loves this city. She really loves this city and loves the people”, said Beverly. “I mean that was the best part about all of it was getting to deal with the people. She took good care of the people in ward three I can tell you that", said Beverly."
A friend of Henson’s, Paul Davis, worship pastor of Northcrest Baptist church spoke about the impact Barbara Henson had while serving in the council for nearly thirty years.
“I think we saw the best of growth in the industry, commerce, and tourism. Mrs. Barbara was very supportive and a driving force between seeing what needed to be passed and in act to get that done in our area”, explained Davis. “She was very proactive in seeing that Meridian was always at the top of the state.”

Many have spoken of the love Barbara Henson had for children. The Barbara Henson’s Nursery School was proof, the center has been open for more than forty years.
“You know that song Hotel California. It says you can check out at any time but can’t leave. That’s the way our children are. They grow up and leave but they never really leave. We always have them, and she knew them by the name”, said Beverly Henson.
Barbara Henson’s funeral will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Northcrest Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at noon before the service.
