Meridian, MS - Today, a renowned watercolorist sat down to paint Meridian's iconic Dentzel Carousel.
Wyatt Waters is an award-winning painter, who earned his master's degree in art at Mississippi College. Waters, who prefers to paint on location as he did today, told us he has always loved the carousel. So, it was time to translate that love... onto canvas.
“It’s a unique carousel, I mean these are hand carved, and the condition is still functional. I don’t know how many of this era are still around, so it’s my way of preserving it on paper,” says Waters.
The Dentzel Carousel was built in 1895 and has been in operation since 1909. It is a National Historic Landmark and is the only two-row stationary Dentzel menagerie carousel still in operation.
