In this week alone, two robberies have been reported, both committed with a gun. Employee Tessa Scarbrough of Queen City Cigars says the robberies has them on alert.

“It is a little concerning. I’ve just been trying to make sure that we stay safe in the shop and watch our back”, said Scarbrough. “Hopefully, we don’t lose customers.”

The most recent robbery was committed here behind me at King City, a convenience store on HWY39. Police say last night around 7:30 P.M. A man entered the store wearing all black with a gun demanding money from the clerk.

“We don’t have new developments, we do know that the suspect fled likely to the apartments adjacent and behind the King City business”, stated Lt. Rita Jack.

The spree of robberies is something that the Business Alert Network, also known as B.A.N. was created for. The program is designed for businesses in the community to work with the police and each other to help aid in instances like the recent robberies.

“This business alert network program will provide training to the store managers and clerks on how to respond to this kind of incident”, said Lt. Jack. “We want the clerk to focus on the suspect’s description, the type of weapon used, their clothing.”

For businesses looking to be a part of the B.A.N. program, you can contact Lt. Rita jack at the Meridian Police Department.
