The Senate District 32 special elections are over and the winner is Democrat Rod Hickman. Hickman got 60% of the votes defeating his opponent Dr. Minh Duong. The two were the remaining two candidates in the special election on November 2nd, forcing the race to go to a runoff this week.

Hickman received the Democratic party endorsement last Monday. Among those giving that endorsement was former District 32 Senator, Sampson Jackson, who resigned earlier this year. His resignation created the vacancy in the Mississippi state senate, which led to this special election.
Rod Hickman's campaign platform focused on him being a listening ear and advocate for the people of District 32 that including Meridian and areas to the north of the city.
“Healthcare, our education system, infrastructure and just making sure that we can put critical resources into the district. The one thing I will add is criminal justice reform. That is major on my list as a prosecutor. Those things are at the top of the list because those are important to District 32” said Rod Hickman in an interview taken earlier this month with Twin States News.
Hickman will now take the senate seat in Jackson and be the voice for District 32 for the next two years.
