Russell, MS - According to District 2 Supervisor Wayman Newell, approximately 13 families on the north side of the interstate, and 30 on the south side of the interstate on Betts Radcliff Road do not have water. “They do not have rural water, their wells are dry, they have shallow wells, and they are having to transport water back and forth, and the ones that still do have water, the smell is terrible. “
Supervisor Newell and the county have applied for a grant through the American Rescue Plan Act to upgrade the Russell Utilities system to get water to its residents. “After they upgrade their system, it’ll be a pumping station like I said at the foot of Betts Radcliff Road, and it will have water for that entire road.”
Resident Rosco Betts feels getting running water will be a great, instead of having to transport “Sometimes your pump goes out and it costs you $15,000 to get a pump put back in. And the water doesn’t half be good.”
Supervisor Wayman Newell says he wants to be sure that residents are taken care of and get the water they need.
