In order for kids to enjoy one of the most loved holidays of the year, parents are urged to keep them as safe as possible during the process. The City of Meridian has enforced guidelines for the public on Halloween night. Two of those are of course wearing a mask and social distancing.
“It’s for children 12 and under, but we also encourage children to wear a face mask. A costume may not be sufficient enough to stop the spread of those droplets that can come from your nose and mouth,” said Community Development Director Laura Carmichael.
While handing out treats, homeowners are also encouraged to keep their distance and may be have the candy already placed in small individual bags so there’s limited interaction.

“Don’t allow the children to reach into the candy of the homeowner and those who are participating can just drop something in the bag--so may even have them pre-bagged up and of course hand sanitizer.”
Carmichael says for those who wish not to participate in trick-or-treating can simply turn off their lights or place a sign on the front door.
“That way you will know which houses are actually participating in the festivities and the trick-or-treating, so we just want everyone to be mindful because COVID-19 is still here.”
Officials ask for residents to trick-or-treat with their own family members. Hours for trick-or-treating on Saturday are from 4pm to 8pm in Meridian.
