Safety precautions during season of sickness.

jroby5

Meridian, MS - Stacey Rhodes is a Resident Physician of EC-HealthNet in Meridian and wants to encourage the community to be cautious when they’re feeling sick. “Typically, the flu starts with a person feeling a little tired, they might have some shortness of breath, they may also have runny nose, sometimes people complain of having a cough. I think just looking out for those things, just general aches, shortness of breath, a cough, sometimes you’ll have a fever, maybe some congestion.”

He also expressed what to do if someone is feeling sick or trying to avoid an illness. “I always recommend that people wash their hands, also avoid touching their eyes, keep surfaces at home clean, you can always get tested for flu and covid, and other than that just bed rest and staying hydrated.”

Speaking of getting tested for flu and covid, Dr. Rhodes encourages the use of vaccines. “Get the flu vaccine, it’s yearly, typically if you’re between 6 months, and nine years, they recommend doing two shots of the covid vaccine, spaced at least 4 weeks apart, in the same year.”

Now as the month of October is breast cancer awareness month, doctors are saying that early detection of any sickness or illness is always best to keep you protected.
