Safety Preparations during National Preparedness Month.

jroby5

Meridian, MS - September is known as National Preparedness Month, and Emergency Management Deputy Director Greg Chatham wants people to be aware. “Now’s the time to clean up around your homes, get everything back, get you a defensible space, there’s all kinds of emergencies that can arise, and it’s hard to be prepared for everything, but if you do a little bit then you’re ahead of the game.”

Chatham also expresses the need for gas, as evacuation efforts may also arise during a disaster. “Don’t be on empty, keep enough gas in your vehicle that if they do call for you to evacuate somewhere, you got enough fuel to get somewhere.”

Overall, Deputy Chatham feels the best way to prepare is to make a supply kit, and to be informed. “Make sure you are aware of the situation and monitor the news and the weather.”

Greg Chatham says that in your survival kit you want to make sure you have necessities, like your flashlight, your phone charger, and your water, also have important documents, and any medication that you may need.
