Meridian, MS - The Meridian Salvation Army is kicking off its Angel Tree Program for this holiday season.
The Salvation Army office started taking applications at the beginning of October, and over 602 children and seniors are currently on their list for adoption this year.
The Commanding Officer for Meridian’s Salvation Army, Roy Fisher, explains the process of adopting an angel.
“You take an Angel off the tree and it’s going to give you the child’s first name, their age, clothing size, their wishes, and things like that. You don’t have to necessarily get what is on there, but you can. But it’s all about giving back to the community.”
There is going to be a new feature in the Red Kettle Campaign this year called Tip Tap for all of those people who don’t carry cash anymore.
“You’re going to be able to go up to a kettle, there is going to be three buttons. One that says $5, one $10, one $20, and you can actually take your credit card or your phone and tap whatever amount you want,” said Lt. Fisher.
Citizens Regional President, Neil Henry, tells Twin States News why they continue to partner with the Salvation Army.
“Salvation Army has been a big part of our community and has been a part of all the good things that go on around Christmas time. We’ve been a partner with them for over 25 years. We love to be able to bring in the potential angels to be shopped for.”
