Meridian, MS - Numerous families were lined up to get their Christmas gifts from The Salvation Army Angel Tree program.

This program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year.

The Salvation Army’s Commanding Officer, Roy Fisher, explains why donating to these kids means so much to everyone involved.

“The greatest thing is to know, when you wake up on Christmas morning, you’re going to be able to have that smile on your face saying man it was so nice to be able to give back. And to know that kids, no matter how small it may have been, will have a Christmas.”

Mr. Fisher also wanted to give a shoutout to all of the businesses around town that helped with this year's donations.

“We were so fortunate this year, we had partners with, Atlas Roofing, with BWI, with Parish Tractor Company, with Rush Hospital. It’s so many that it’s hard to keep in mind. First Christian Church comes to mind also.”

Ms. Overa Murray expressed how much it means to see the community come together for the less fortunate.

“This is a blessing, it’s a blessing from the lord. Got all of these toys and everything for these children and stuff. I know that the parents need it, need the help.”

Multiple volunteers were helping distribute these toys to the families they belong to.

Volunteer, Tracy Towner said, “I found out that there was a volunteer opportunity here and wanted to come help and support the community. Brought my daughter who is 15 years old, so she could get exposure.”

This year's Angel Tree distribution had 297 families with 603 children and senior angels.
