Meridian, MS - If you like pancakes, the Masonic Lodge in Meridian was the place to be this morning.
The locals of the Queen City came out to support the annual Scottish Rite Pancake Fundraiser, which takes place on the first day of December every year.
A member of Meridian’s Scottish Rite, Grover Vining, explains where the proceeds of this fundraiser go.
“The proceeds from this particular meal today will go to an organization called Illumination for Dyslexia, which helps here in Lauderdale County. Helps with the dyslexic children, and helps with speech therapy.”
Dyslexia is a learning disability that disrupts how your brain processes written language.
People with dyslexia have trouble with reading and related skills.
Mr. Vining tells Twin States News why it is their mission to help dyslexic children.
“So, this will be able to teach them how to approach and how to understand and better read and put together, So they can perform the work they need to do. Their homework, and their reading and their math assignments.”
Meridian Locals were excited about their pancakes, and to be helping support this fundraiser.
“I’m happy to be a part of it and come and enjoy the food, it’s delicious. But also, what I like about it is where it's going, the money that they are raising is going to children with dyslexia. We have many in our schools, and it’s a wonderful thing that they can get this help.”
