Southeast High School Shop of Horrors

Southeast Lauderdale High School celebrates the return of the spooky season with a fundraiser like no other.

Spooky season is definitely here back in action in the City of Meridian. Southeast Lauderdale High school Skills USA students have constructed a house of horrors as a fundraiser. Let’s learn a little more about the horrors that awaits

Skills USA student Dylan Bolin said, "It's a really good building experience for us because we all put it together and it helps us practice our skills and also raise money for the club so we can have money to do stuff later in the year."

With their creepy scary details from the decor to the lighting and props it looks like a lot of time was put into the project

"It takes approximately a month to build, and that's three blocks a day. So three classes a day, we have lesson, safety and a debriefing. And, like, a listing of everything that needs to be done. And then we give out assignments. said Construction Teacher Jeremy Smith.

The haunted house is open for all ages and the house operates on a scare meter so little kids can enjoy the house as well.

"So say we have a little kid come through. We'll say scare meter one, and we don't scare them as bad as if we had an adult come through. We say scare meter 10 and we hear them pretty good."said Bolin.

Working and training a new group of students smith tells us the main goal for doing this project.

"Well, the main thing i wanted to do is be able to put, like, a tangible lesson to what they see in a book. So when they're building its construction. It's bracing, its geometry.”

What initially started as a lesson on how to continue to make income became a yearly tradition. This year will mark the 7th year of the shop of horrors haunted house.

The haunted house will be open every weekend, leading up to Halloween on October 31st, from 7pm-10pm and it is located on the Southeast Lauderdale High School campus.
