Meridian, MS - Southeast Lauderdale High School is being recognized nationally for getting students more involved in extracurricular activities.
The school was awarded a $10,000 student engagement grant to help more students graduate.
This grant was made possible through the University of West Alabama and John Hopkins University.
The School District said student involvement in extracurricular activities has improved since receiving the grant in August of 2022.
“We want our students to feel involved here at the school, of course we’re always every single day pushing academics, we want our kids to do the best that they can, but study and research show that not only when kids are involved in their academics, if they’re also involved in extracurriculars, they just seem to do so much more successfully in life.” - Kameron Burnham (Assistant Principal)
The school says it’s working on connectedness, and trying to get students involved that may not be in typical sports.
