LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. - The Marion Police Department surprised Southeast High School senior Ariel Miller today with a $300 scholarship. This is a part of the Marion Police Department Foundation. The scholarship is to help students with funds after high school.
We’ve done college students and now we’re hitting the schools. The seniors that are deserving need our help.” said Chief Randall Davis.
The scholarship is to help students with funds after high school. Miller has a 4.0 GPA, is the 2020 Homecoming Queen and is Miss Southeast High School. Miller plans to attend nursing school at the University of Southern Mississippi in the fall. Miller maintains all these honors while working at Chick-fi-la.
“I am so appreciative. I’ve worked so hard and it feels good to be recognized," said Miller. "I’m going to put it toward my school funds so I can go to school--into a nursing program. It’s very needed and I appreciate it all.”
Chief Davis says they will present scholarships to other students in Lauderdale County in the future.
“We care. We want to do something for them to get them a good start because people say a lot, but these kids are our future and we have to ensure that they’re there and get everything they need to make it," said Davis.
