In Sumter County, a unity march is scheduled to take place in the town of Livingston on Wednesday, September 9.

The march is being held by a student mental health awareness organization named “Active Minds” on the campus of the University of West Alabama, and the purpose of the march is to spark conversation about changing the name of Bibb Graves Hall on UWA’s campus, speak out against social injustices, and systemic racism.
The march will begin on UWA’s Campus in front of Young Hall Cafeteria at 6pm. There will be speakers from other on-campus groups and the Meridian organization, the Dream Team of The South.
“We really are focusing on getting the administration’s ear, and letting them know that we are concerned as a student body, about the name of this building, and also the social injustices that we also face in the classroom as students,” said Fannasy Garrett-Hammett, organizer of the Unity March in Livingston.
The Unity March is expected to end around 7:30 pm in front of the Livingston Courthouse.
