Community partners team up with the Meridian Public School District to host Community Cafes for students who may not have access to internet.
Trinity Williams, a 2nd grader at T.J. Harris Elementary School, along with other students have the option to access wifi from Community Cafes to complete their schoolwork. With this new way of learning, Trinity says she misses the classroom.
“I miss when it’s the afternoon, we can play games on the computer, play with the legos and play with the cars,” says Trinity.
These cafes will take place until Friday, September 4th at the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience, MSU Riley Center, Freedom Rock and Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Elementary and Secondary students receive temperature checks, breakfast and lunch, as well as teacher assistants at their side.

“They’ve done really good. They’ve done their lesson and followed the rules. They seem to have acclimated with the process,” Teacher Assistant Anita Dawson explains.
With virtual learning being a go to option, the MAX says they plan to help in the future if needed.
“Given the challenges the school system is facing, we're all learning what the best way to deliver the education is,” says Curator of Education Dr. Tony Lewis. “We see our mission as if not being able to provide the kind of education the schools system gives, to at least be able to provide some type of supplement.”
