Meridian MS - Meridian Public School District Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter has released an update regarding Meridian High Schools’ Graduation Ceremony tomorrow.

In the statement, Dr. Carter says: “Due to recent events, I have to look at every option available in order to provide our graduates and their families with the safest ceremony possible. Out of an abundance of caution, we are moving the 2023 MHS Graduation to The Evangel Temple located at 3611 MS-145 Meridian, MS 39301 on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 9 a.m.”
The district’s statement about the change in the graduation location certainly created concerns on Facebook. Comments and posts say. “Every time something happens in little ole Meridian around graduation time, MHS graduates somehow always seem to get punished for it.
“This is so pathetic; I understand safety first but again its people traveling for these kids’ big day.”
“Y’all waited at the last minute. Please do better!”
Another concern is each student receiving only seven tickets for family members.
“The location change is not a issue for real, but I don’t agree with the limit of seven tickets.”
“The location can’t prevent anything from happening, the seven tickets is the real problem.”
Again, the meridian high school graduation ceremonies are now scheduled to be at 9 tomorrow morning at the evangel temple.
The Meridian Superintendent put out the statement after a reported incident on Tuesday where two adults were involved in a verbal altercation at a school awards program. One of the adults was reported to have a weapon, but no shots were fired.
