The Mississippi Children's Museum Traveling Exhibit

The Meridian Children’s Museum has started a new initiative geared towards Mississippi’s youngest learners.

The Meridian Children’s Museum has a new program designed for toddlers called ABC Come Play along with a temporary traveling exhibit known as Rocky’s House. Liz Wilson, the Executive Director tells us more about their initiative.

“We are so excited. As we near our first birthday, we are kicking off our first toddler program, ABC come play with me. And in conjunction with that, we are also thrilled to be opening the traveling exhibit that's been created by the Mississippi children's museum in partnership with Barksdale reading institute, “said Wilson.

Wilson says Rocky’s House is designed around reading, talking, and playing and how all of those activities help to build a literacy base.

“It's all part of a statewide initiative called talk from the start. And we all have a part in that is what we want to advocate with our parents and our entire community that talking to and with our children from birth helps to build a strong literacy platform and background for children for the toddler program,” stated Wilson.

In conjunction with Rocky’s House, they also have ABC Come Play we learn more about the program and what it teaches.

Wilson said,” ABC Come Play with Me is a program designed for our youngest learners. And we are hoping that in that program we help them explore their literacy background through books and song and art.”

Toddlers enjoyed the traveling exhibit while they can from the interactive activities, meeting rocky, and the puppets and books.

“So Rocky's house is only going to be with us for a short while as it is about to make its way all over the state of Mississippi. We will have it here in meridian for about three weeks. So don't miss your chance to be one of the very first to experience Rocky’s house,” said Wilson.
