ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WAYS TO BE BETTER KEPT UP TO DATE ON LITERALLY ANY BREAKING INFORMATION? WELL IF YOU LIVE OR WORK IN MERIDIAN, MS. YOU’RE IN LUCK. TWIN STATES NEWS DANNY TODD HAS INFORMATION ABOUT A NEW ALERT SYSTEM THAT’S JUST RELEASED IN THE QUEEN CITY.
The City of Meridian went live yesterday with its notification system called Code Red. And this is a way that you can be weather-ready and weather-alert. But not only that, it has so many more positive things that you can stay updated within your area.
Doug Stephens: public safety director for the City of Meridian says "The city of Meridian has kicked off a campaign with our new community notification system. It's Code Red. This is a system we had years past. It was our emergency notification system. The difference between what we had previously and what we have today is our current system. We can put out emergency and weather warnings in addition to we can put out general notifications."
Doug Stephens calls the alerts an all-together notification system that keeps residents updated on all aspects of the community, including boil water notices, prolonged street closures, and weather emergency notifications, just to name a few.
Doug Stephens says "What this system will do for us will allow us to send out the weather warnings and the notifications of any type of disaster or anything that is of cause life or death or hazard to our citizens."
The instructions are super simple. You text meridianms all one word. You've got to be careful about the auto-correct to not change this, but you send it to 99411. Within several seconds you'll get a direct link on how to enroll.
Once you open the link, it will take you through a step-by-step process on how to pinpoint your location, and you can even mark which type of notifications you'd like to opt-in.
Doug Stephens says "We don't currently have how many people have registered since yesterday afternoon. We will receive those numbers throughout this week. At some point today we anticipate there to be an all-call to all landlines within the city limits of Meridian, and they will receive a phone call with a prerecorded message from the city of Meridian, explaining what code red is and what we're trying to get accomplished with Code Red."
Stephens points out the weather threats we had a few days ago are a good example of how the alert system can help just about everyone to be ahead of the game in case of an emergency in their area.
Doug Stephens adds "If you don't have a smartphone or you don't have Internet access, the city meridian is providing an avenue for you to get registered, and that avenue is to call the Meridian Public Safety Department at 6014846890."
By doing this, they will get you signed up. And you can also visit the city of Meridian's Facebook page or their website for more ways to register.
