The End of Tax Season is near.

Meridian MS - This Tax Season may have had a slow beginning, but the deadline is quickly approaching.

"New Money Taxes" Office Manager Jamesha Earvie explains the reason behind the slow start. “Well, now, in the beginning, they are coming in pretty slow. The reason is because I think they want to check everybody's kids, make sure that the kids they found are the kids they've got, you know, more ideas there. They're doing identity verification where they just randomly get people. They want them to verify, you know, to make sure that they have them.”

Earvie also says some taxes are actually lower this year. "For the last two years, The IRS allowed people to claim more children, and they were paying them more for the children. They were paying them, you know, for a higher amount of kids. This year they went back down to only allow you to claim, well you can still claim as many as you want, but they're not going to actually pay you for like three, three and a half."

Jamesha says if you miss the deadline to file, you can still file at anytime. “You can file your taxes anytime. The filing deadline is for those that owe, then they have to start an interest on it.”

This year’s tax deadline is Tuesday, April 18th.
