In Meridian, the Meridian Public-School District has unveiled its mobile meal bus, that will help distribute breakfast and lunch for its summer feeding program, to students who are not able to access one of the districts “Grab and Go” program sites on their own.

The mobile meal bus allows the Meridian Public-School District to distribute breakfast and lunch to 1,000 children in the city of Meridian.
The bright and colorful bus sporting the words “feeding the future” will load up each day at Oakland Heights Elementary School, before departing to deliver meals around the city to students that are unable to pick up grab and go meals at one of the districts three designated summer feeding sites.
When the summer feeding program ends the bus will be used to deliver meals when possible to students on field trips and for special events, and although it is being used to deliver meals, Louise Mcphee, Child Nutrition Director for the Meridian Public-School District has shared that it has also been used to distribute other items to children.

“Along with the food, when we go out with breakfast and lunch, we also have partnered with Weems, they gave us packets that we delivered to the children and they were so happy to receive , and one thing is I was just really happy about the color of the bus. So, it can get out and we want the children to know this is our bus, that we want them to know this is an extension of the cafeteria, and it is a safe place for them,” said Louise McPhee, Child Nutrition Director for the Meridian Public-School District.
A local business named “Custom Creations”, made the design of the mobile meal bus come to life, and owner Jennifer Coleman, shared that they were glad to be a part of something that will impact the community in a positive way.
“It is by far the most fulfilling project that we’ve done in a long time, it makes you feel really good just to see something like this come to life and to know that it is going to impact the community so positively, especially during times that have been real negative,” said Jennifer Coleman, owner of Custom Creations.
The Meridian Public-School District will provide information on where you can expect to find the mobile meal bus on the district’s website under the child nutrition tab.
