The Meridian Rails Historical Society now has a permanent place to call home.

Earlier this month The City Council voted to donate the Railway Express Agency building to serve as the headquarters and the location of The Meridian Railroad Museum.
“The city of Meridian, in the council meeting this last month, has donated the railway express agency building to meridian rails historical society. So, we are officially here and here to stay in this building,” stated Lucy Dormont President of Meridian Rails Historical Society.
With so much history within the building Dormont says that she feels good now having the meridian railroad museum in this building as it was intended to be.
“I think the best part of all of this is that this building was deeded to the city of meridian for railroad museum purposes only. It was the wish of Mr. Jackstack, who was very well known in the community and fulfilling his wishes to see this be a railroad museum.”
With hopes to be open during the first of the year , dormant says tells us what could be expected of the museum
“We are going to be having a regular schedule of museum hours. We're also going to be doing things like tots and trains, story time with the engineer model, rewarding classes for the teenagers.”

Meridian residents are also thrilled to hear of the meridian railroad museum opening back up in a permanent building.
Bruce Martin a Meridian Resident said, “I’m thrilled we have so much going on in meridian and this will just add to our success, I’m thrilled about this and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
The museum plans to open the beginning of next year being open Tuesday through Sunday.
