“I’m just hurt, lost, angry, upset, devastated”

Those are only a small fraction of the emotions Lydia feels at the moment following a drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of her 5-year-old son Zy’kerioun Brown.

Just 1 day after a Press Conference called by Mayor Jimmie Smith in regards to the shootings this past weekend.

The mourning mother of the five-year-old who lost his life speaks out.

“18 rounds, y’all could have just shot 2 or 3 times but y’all shot 18 times y’all meant to kill something y’all took my baby, y’all took me.”

The grieving mother held back her emotions as she recalls the events from Saturday.

“My husband he told me, my baby, my baby gone.”

“I jumped up and I saw my baby slumped over on the couch, I didn’t know. I was scared to touch him. Even go in the room and look at him”

The mother states they were all asleep when they were awakened the sound of gunshots and were unaware it was hitting their home.“We came outside trying to figure out where the shots come from, how the shots happened.”

Zy’kerioun was due to begin school this year as a kindergartener. Lydia recalls the type of child he was. “He was a happy kid, he was so happy. He was sweet. Loved school, he was just full of life.”

Following the press conference yesterday when asked if she feels comfortable that the Police Department is doing their best to solve this crime she stated.

“We done had plenty of murders and nothing got solved from them just yet .”

When asked if she had a chance to say anything to whoever took away her child, she stated.

“Just come forward, just let it be known, don’t be afraid. Yea I’d be scared too but still, y’all took an innocent bystander.”

The mourning Grandmother of Brown had this to say.

“I would like to say this, I want to do one clear. This was not a drive-by. It was a walk-up. They walked up and shot 18 times.”

Expressing her anger and outrage over the death of her Grandson, she says whoever did this had plenty of times not to commit this crime.

“18 times, so when you got out you had time to think. When you walked up you had time to think. Before you pulled the trigger, you had time to think.”

The Grandmother also had a message to the Community.

“If we don’t start back like Mr.Markaham’s son said and start coming together as a community it could be your house next, God Bless.”
