The Quitman School District will follow a distance learning format for the remainder of 2020

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

Today, the Quitman School District announced that all students in the district will discontinue in-person learning, and switch to a distance learning format for the remainder of 2020.

Beginning tomorrow, December 8, all students in the Quitman School District will be continue their education for the remainder of the semester via distance learning.

The district made this decision over the weekend, following an announcement on December 4, that more than 100 students and staff members in the Quitman School District are currently being quarantined.

The Quitman School District’s testing and textbook coordinator, and mathematics specialist, Dr. Shevonda Truman, shared that the decision was made due to the increase in those quarantined, in comparison to previous numbers, and rising COVID-19 cases being reported in the Quitman community.

“We have been very transparent with our numbers here, about what’s going on. we are putting it out as it comes to us. so, that the community knows exactly what we’re experiencing. so, i think parents would appreciate knowing that we are putting student’s safety above all, and it’s not just student’s safety, the safety of our staff, and the safety of this community,” said Dr. Shevonda Truman.

Dr. Truman also said that they encourage parents, students, and staff to continue to follow the CDC’s advised guidelines, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, so that students can return to on campus learning next semester.

“One thing that we know will be a key to all of this is our community, our parents, masking up, wearing their masks, and practicing social distancing over the Christmas break and during this time. so, that we can return to school, because our superintendent wants our students to be able to learn face to face,” said Dr. Truman.

As of now the Quitman School District will look at data regarding COVID-19 on January 6, and evaluate if, and when they would like students to return to traditional and hybrid learning .
