New opportunities and activities will soon be available for Meridian residents as The Salvation Army has secured their new location for their community center.

We have previously spoken with the Captain of The Salvation Army who gave us an insight on getting a new building for The Salvation Army’s New Center. They have now secured a new building for their center. They even have some extra help to provide a smooth transition to the new location.
"We've come to help out The Salvation Army, consolidate all their locations into one space, which is this location right here. They've just moved in here this week. And so we've come to kind of help them bring all their areas together, including the food pantry and the clothing site, donations for where they can have everything all in one place, said AmeriCorps volunteer Shannon Porter.
The AmeriCorps volunteers will be here in the queen city for 2 weeks providing their services to help out with The Salvation Army.

"So we're going to be moving a lot of pounds of food, sorting it, and making it accessible and available for them. We're going to be painting, putting up shelving, cleaning carpets, just making it basically a very safe and habitable place for them so they can do the work that they do, said Porter.
They have been working hard to secure the new location for the center, Robb tells us how it feels to finally secure their new building.
"We are so excited. This has been months in the making, and we appreciate our realtors and everybody that has worked with us with all our inspections and everything to get in here, stated Captain Tamara Robb.
We received a tour of the new spacious location and viewed the new areas they will be adding from a computer room, gym and classrooms, and much more.
"We want to just be able to reach out to the community and offer more services to all ages in the community," said Robb.
The Salvation Army will resume its drive-thru food distribution at their new location on the last Monday of this month.
