Trick or Treating Safety

Trick or treating this year may look a little different. The concern of how children are going to stay COIVD safe while out collecting candy is a question being asked across the nation.

One year after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled Halloween, the CDC has now given the green light for children to return to trick or treating, but experts say parents should still take precautions when out on Halloween night.

Twin states news stopped by the local costume store to speak with people about what they are doing different this Halloween.

“Wear a mask, having things in individual bags so that kids aren’t rummaging through a big bowl”, stated Andrea Goodwin. “You can already have the candy packaged to hand out one at a time.”

While going out and filling a bucket full of candy is exciting for children; they don’t always think about the dangers of running towards a crowd. A shopper informed us of a way that may help in preventing kids from swarming a neighbor’s door.

“If you had a little waiting area, a spot for them to wait for the next one then you just call them up one at a time”, said David Bonner

Some Halloween manufactures have even designed a tool that helps in social distancing. Workers at Halloween Spirits here in Meridian demonstrated a tool that kids can use to collect candy while also practicing socially distancing.
